At first, Tiong Bahru Market Food Centre only had one floor, where the market and the hawker centre had to both use. However, after multiple renovations in 1993 and 2004 the hawker centre now boasts two stories. The bottom floor is for the market while the top floor is the hawker centre. It now boasts escalators, lifts and even bigger stalls. 

Tiong Bahru Market Food Centre deeply reflects the changes Singapore has undergone since British colonial times. Tiong Bahru Market Food Centre has been influenced by the housing crisis, independence, and even the prosperity of modern times.
