Yong Tau Fu

What is it?

Yong Tau Foo is a Hakka dish populated in Southeast Asia. It is commonly eaten in Singapore, and is sold in many hawker stalls. It consists primarily of tofu filled with ground meat mixture or fish paste. There are many varieties of this food, which depends on locations and stalls, as many uses different preparation methods and included different ingredients. The traditional one consist of tofu cubes stuffed and heaped with minced meat such as pork with herbs, and fried until golden brown. It can be eaten dry with a sauce or served as a soup dish. In Singapore, yong tau foo is often used to describe the dish, and not the tofu exclusively. Such dish can contain a many selections of food items.
